This was part of a group of songs I wrote walking around the hills of Highland Park in Los Angeles late at night. More experimenting with different layering rhythms over the top of each other. I thought a breakbeat going through the whole song would be fun. I get bored easy listening to pop music, so I tend to write weird stuff like odd meter bridges for basic pop songs. -Burke

v1
run, trip, break
it's pulling me under
rot, split, fray
it's pulling me under
cash, debt, greed
its pulling me under
choke, spit, bleed
it's pulling me farther down
ch
Run to the hills
and over the stars
far from the past
you hide from your scars
So, cover the chills
and stay numb from harm
until you fall back deep into my arms
v2
Strum, fix, fill
it's pulling me under
suck, kiss, kill
it's pulling me under
rock, sweat, dream
it's pulling me under
Lust, Lie, scream
it's pulling me farther down
ch+
I clean up the spills
and sound the alarms
but pride is our cast
our black coat of arms
BR-
On the day the you were born the angels stared and tried not to laugh
From the day that you were born the curse of shyness gave into wrath
Time to stand up
Take my hand
Will you stand up?
